Portfolio and Project Management Assessment – Watersure

Project Brief: The main objective was to assess the current state of both project management delivery and portfolio maturity, to analyse and validate supporting evidence,

providing recommendations to be implemented based on the organisation’s aspirations for an achievable future state. Our methodology has two phases, the first phase is to gain an understanding the current state of the ‟on the ground” project delivery across several differing complexity type projects. This is then followed by an assessment of the organisational portfolio maturity.

  • Phase 1 – Undertake several project health check assessments, collecting evidence and artefacts along the journey for final reporting and recommendations.
  • Phase 2 – Undertake a detailed assessment of the portfolio for a final report detailing the maturity assessment analysis, all findings, artefacts / evidence with proposed recommendations and timelines aligned to the client’s future state “Maturity Level” aspirations.

Portfolio management is the selection, prioritisation and control of an organisation’s projects and programmes in line with its strategic objectives and capacity to deliver.

The goal is to balance change initiatives and business-as-usual while optimising return on investment. Portfolios can be managed at an organisational or functional level and address three questions:

  1. Are these the projects and programmes needed to deliver the strategic objectives, subject to risk, resource constraints and affordability?
  2. Is the organisation delivering them effectively and efficiently?
  3. Are the full potential benefits from the organisation’s investment being realised?

As a result, portfolio management integrates the disciplines of:

  1. Strategic planning
  2. Change management
  3. Project and programme management
